iStockphoto Announces Financial Incentives, Declares Holiday

Getty-owned microstock site iStockphoto, has announced a series of awards and financial incentives for its members, and warmed the hearts of post-structuralists everywhere by declaring August 19 “Punctum Day.” The “holiday for creatives” is named after the term that literary theorist Roland Barthes used to describe the poignancy of an image for an individual viewer. The holiday also commemorates the date on which the French government unveiled Louis Daguerre’s daguerreotype technology for capturing a photograph in 1839.
