Sir Paul McCartney’s team to release more of Linda’s photos ahead of exhibition

Photo News - No Comments » - Posted on April, 12 at 8:05 am

Sir Paul McCartney’s team will release more photographs taken by his late wife Linda in the days leading up to an exhibition which opens in London on 25 April.

So far the show’s publicity machine has released just four official pictures to promote the exhibition, which takes place at the James Hyman Gallery on Savile Row.

However, organisers have told magazine that they plan to release several more of Linda’s photos over the next week or so.

The exhibition covers the period from the 1960s until the late 1990s and is expected to include portraits of Sir Paul, Mick Jagger and John Lennon.

Many of the pictures are ‘rarely seen works,’ according to the gallery.

Sir Paul said that an exhibition showing such a range of Linda’s work was ‘long overdue’.

Billed as the first major UK exhibition of Linda McCartney platinum prints, the display took three years to put together with the help of Sir Paul’s daughter Mary and art historian James Hyman.

The former Beatle added: ‘The result is a sensitive selection of works that really demonstrates Linda’s creative output as a photographer.

‘The photographs not only illustrate her incredible talent as an artist but as someone who was very much connected to the culture of the times and wasn’t afraid to challenge herself, or her subject.’

Landscapes, self-portraits and family life are also depicted in Linda’s pictures.
Linda McCartney died in 1998.

The exhibits will take the form of large platinum prints, limited editions of which will be for sale, accompanied by a certificate signed by Sir Paul.

The show is open to the public from 25 April-19 July. It takes place at the James Hyman Gallery, 5 Savile Row, London W1. Tel: 0207 494 3857.

Police return photographer’s seized films; photo enthusiast awaits results of police investigation

Photo News - No Comments » - Posted on January, 6 at 6:30 am

The photographer who had two rolls of film seized by Humberside Police while taking pictures in Hull before Christmas says they have now been returned.

Steve Carroll is still awaiting the result of a police investigation after officers seized the 35mm films, accusing him of obtaining photographs of possibly sensitive material in Hull city centre.

Carroll said that the officers objected to him photographing ‘sensitive buildings’, one later adding that people had been anxious about his use of the camera, a Voigtländer Bessa R4A that he had bought just days before.

Carroll told the officers he was entitled to take pictures in a public place.

The photo enthusiast, who lives in Kent, was making his first attempt at ‘street photography’ while visiting relatives in Hull on 1 December.

A spokeswoman for the force today told us that the photographer’s complaints are still being investigated.

Photo News - No Comments » - Posted on December, 21 at 2:05 pm

Jan Vermeer, a passionate Dutch Wildlife photographer, has made a special journey lately with the aim of capturing the emperor penguin in its natural habitat using the Nikon D300. We have obtained the exclusive rights for our German edition and we gladly refer you to the Nikon D300 test in practice made by Jan Vermeer. The Nikon D300 has recently become available and is receiving a lot of attention since then. And for a good reason listening to Jan’s comments on the D300! Jan Vermeer has been shooting with the Nikon D2x for a while now but has to admit that the D300 has a lot to offer and that it turns out to be an ideal second body for the photographer he is for future projects. The Nikon D300 has been available since last November.

Nikon D300 Antarctica photos
The pictures in the article have been captured with Nikon equipment and mainly with the latest Nikon D300. The pictures speak for themselves and of course the unique and beautiful surroundings are an important factor and addition to the final outcome. Photographer Jan Vermeer frequently travels afar in the search for untouched wildlife. Intensive expeditions have been undertaken under the auspices of the Dutch photography office ‘Foto Natura’. The Antarctica expedition requires a lot from the equipment; the cold temperature in the first place.

Jan Vermeer – Dutch Wildlife photographer
Jan has trusted his experiences with the Nikon D300 to paper and has delivered us his images and text. The report can be read in the German edition of LetsGoDigital. The circumstances Jan has worked in require a lot from the photographer and his equipment and it is greatly important the equipment doesn’t fail the photographer. The Nikon D300-SLR passed with flying colours in every respect.

Antarctica expedition – Nikon D300 Test
The equipment Jan used for this test in practice contained of two camera bodies; one of which was mounted on the Nikon AF-S VR 70-200mm 1:2.8G. An AF-S Nikkor 500 mm 1:4D II, AF-S Nikkor 12-24mm 1:4 G ED, AF-S Nikkor 17-55mm 1:2.8 G ED, AF-S Nikon Tele converter TC-14E II and for extreme landscapes an AF Fisheye Nikkor 10.5mm 1:2.8 G ED. The new AF-S Nikkor 14-24mm 1:2.8G ED also got added to the equipment at the last minute. The weight and format of the equipment are extremely important for these kinds of expeditions. The Nikon D300 received a considerable amount of professional technique belonging to the D3 but housed in a reasonable compact sized DSLR housing. This is the perfect solution for photographers like Jan Vermeer! If I’ve made you curious about the exclusive report of Jan Vermeer’s Antarctica expedition please visit our German edition. And if you don’t understand the German language you will still be able to enjoy the astonishingly beautiful and impressing pictures Jan has made. Continue to read the full Nikon D300 Field Test.
